Cops, obviously, need to be in excellent shape. I stumbled across this forum discussing the case of an officer in Nebraska who was fired after 25 years on the job for being out of shape. How out of shape? In 2005 he was was listed as 5'9" and 300 pounds.... My height...twice my weight. Granted people do tend to gain some weight as they get older, that's just ridiculous, and truthfully a little frightening.

That's pretty crazy that an officer is 5'9 and weighs 300 pounds. I dont even know how a cop could be that out of shape and still wear the uniform. I wonder if he can even run. However maybe he has a disability or something like that, because I saw a traffic cop with a disability and this could have occured while he was doing his job in the past.
ReplyDeleteThis scares me because i know many cops and quite a few fit this type of discription. furthermore, i feel that if i were to come across a cop like this i would just run and take my chances if i were in trouble. also, i feel that there should be a law in place that allow cops to be put through a physical fitness test every few years and if they don't pass they are suspended until they do.
ReplyDeleteI know that weight shouldn't really be a discriminating factor but in these extreme cases they should. Maybe they should set up like if you are determined to be obese you cannot serve as a police officer. I know personally I would want someone who would be able to defend me and in a quick manner and I cannot see someone that weight able to run after the criminal or do any sort of chase and this is not safe for the people living in the community. Maybe they should keep running physical tests year after year and retest each year or so to make sure you are still in good physical standing.
